Mental Health

As a Pagan Minister, my personal interest is in mental health more than ceremonies (such as handfasting or birth), more than physical healing or teaching basic Paganism. I recently became a CBT Coach. Something I wanted to briefly talk about is a saying we have 'Beware the self fulfilling prophesy'.

When using tarot cards and oracles, we can become overly swept up in what they say. It's best to take it lightly and use the information as advice to make choices yourself. A good, free oracle site is http://www.facade.com/

Sometimes we believe in something so much, we almost try to make it happen. Subconsciously 'allowing' things to occur that could spark a chain of events of the very thing we want- or don't want. Starting a conversation with someone, applying for a job, there are so many ways to create connections that can lead to a new experience.

Other people will allow themselves to get into a relationship that they hate, just to be able to win arguments, or to be able to fight. I really believe that many 'bad relationships' continue because people insist on trying to 'win' whatever relationship fantasy they have.

What bothers me the most is the social and commercial aspect of this feeling of helplessness. If we are caught up in a place of 'destiny', if all things are our fate, we must be helpless against them. We're not -all we need to do is grab control of our own experiences. There shouldn't be any need to fight- you can only fit into your own energy, your own path.

If someone wants to visit a place because there is a zoo, or stray cats everywhere, or a circus with tigers and elephants being forced to dance for our entertainment- remember that as a tourist or customer, we are supporting the existence of such a place. Why become upset about animal cruelty if you support part of it?

For people who want to see 'all' abusers and criminals suffer (sex offenders and thieves are often viewed as the scum of the Earth), as long we want them simply 'to suffer' we are not addressing the fact they exist in the first place. Instead, a little change in thought patterns can change the way we live in other ways.

Acknowledge that there are ways to prevent some crimes from occurring. We need to look at fair ways to prevent crime from existing. It should not exist. Certainly not at the current levels. Instead of wishing for suffering or vengeance, also add a new thought; that they are stopped before they can cause damage. Imagine and promote a world where through a better society, or divine intervention, whichever it is, that the crime cannot go very far, that it's stopped in it's tracks- rather than the abuser simply 'suffering' later in a hell or prison. Start thinking differently, it will improve other aspects of your life.

I'm not going to try and explain the current murder rate in London though I suspect it has a lot to do with our culture today. I'm not in London so can't comment. Maybe it's part to do with the internet, instant information making people feel like the world is no longer a challenge, that things in real life have lost their worth.

  1. Wise words... A change in mindset is often the beginning of change. One thought can change the world, or our part of it.

    1. Exactly, the better thoughts- the ones with room for growth and change can become contagious.
